About Duncan Hill Transport

A family-run haulier, on the same Cumbrian yard since the day we started.

Duncan Hill is an independent haulage contractor based near Maryport in Cumbria. We operate a fleet of modern vehicles and offer a comprehensive transport service to customers across the chemical and general manufacturing industries, bulk liquid haulage by road and rail, HGV testing, tank cleaning, tank hire and storage, all run from the same yard.

We’re a small, close-knit team. The same family has owned the business since 1990, and a number of our drivers have been with us for more than twenty years. That continuity matters, both to the customers who rely on us for high-value, regulated work, and to the people who work here.

our story

Duncan Hill set up as a haulage contractor in 1951, after the de-nationalisation of road transport opened the door to independent operators. The business has changed shape a few times since, through the Marchon Products years in the 1960s, the long London runs of the 1970s and ’80s, and the move to chemical specialism that defines what we do today, but the family-run character has stayed the same throughout.

The people behind the operation

A small team, but the right one. Office, yard and drivers, all working out of the same site at Crosby Villa. A number of them have been here for decades, and that continuity is something our customers notice, you tend to get the same familiar voices on the phone and the same faces on the road.

Supporting the local community

Duncan Hill is proud to support the local community by serving as the travel sponsor for Carlisle United Ladies, as well as providing kit sponsorship for Cockermouth Wasps and the Cumbria Sports Coaching U11s. Through these partnerships, we aim to enable teams to focus on their performance, promote youth and women’s sports, and contribute positively to the growth and enjoyment of grassroots football.

By investing in local sports, we celebrate the dedication and achievements of players at every level while reinforcing our commitment to fostering a vibrant and connected community.
